About Me

Personal

Hello, my name is Lucas. I am a first year Engineering student at Western University, and intend to specialize in Mechatronics Engineering. I was born in Sudbury, Ontario and later moved to Strathroy, Ontario. I have competed in two game design competitions, one of which I placed first place. I am interested in management, programming, computer hardware, and the automotive industry.

Work Experience

I began working at age 10 in a horse stable. I worked long hours in both winter and summer taking care of the horses and cleaning their stalls. I learned many lessons from my first job, like the importance of quality work and efficiency. After 5 years of working at the stable I applied for a position in the Canadian Tire Automotive Department. The experience of working for a large scale company was very eye opening. I learned how to work in a team environment while gaining knowledge of the automotive industry. Later I moved to Strathroy where I applied for a position in the Canadian Tire Receiving Department. In this position I learned how to optimize workflow and manage other employees.

Volunteer Experience

  • Canada Learning Code and Kids Learning Code Mentor. Here I got to help teach people the basics of programming and storytelling. This opportunity allowed me to improve my communication skills and gain leadership experience.
  • As a student in grade 11, I volunteered to teach the grade 12 computer programming class which gave me the opportunity to teach a group of six students how to develop a video game in Unity. We successfully made a multi-level singleplayer exploration game. The students learned skills like three dimensional computer aided design, and basic programming practices. This experience allowed me to improve my leadership skills and communication skills.
